Mr. Uhl was Executive Director of Cleveland Today (formerly the New Cleveland Campaign) from August 1997 until it was merged with the Greater Cleveland Growth Association in April 2002.  Cleveland Today was the civic organization charged with promoting Cleveland's attributes through a comprehensive marketing communications program to regional, national and international opinion leaders. 

While running that organization, he helped the community host two live national broadcasts of PBS news shows, initiated a national Cleveland image advertising program, achieved "International Press Center" for the organization from the U.S. State Department in addition to running an extensive national media relations program. 

He was a 1999 winner of the Distinguished Sales and Marketing Executive award from the Cleveland chapter of Sales and Marketing Executives Association.

Prior to joining Cleveland Today, Mr. Uhl served nine years as Director of Corporate Communications for The East Ohio Gas Co., where he was responsible for all the company's internal and external communications, including media relations, crisis communications and customer information advertising.

Previously, Mr. Uhl also worked as Director of Public Information for the American Gas Association in Washington, D.C., and as a public information representative for Wisconsin Gas Company, a reporter for WRIT All-News Radio and a free-lance reporter for United Press International, all in Milwaukee.

Mr. Uhl is a 1978 graduate from Marquette University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.

Among the civic, charitable, educational and professional organizations Mr. Uhl has been, or is, involved with are the American Advertising Federation - Cleveland, Press Club of Cleveland, Greater Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau, Leadership Cleveland, Marquette University National Alumni Board of Directors and Shoes and Clothes for Kids.  He is currently serving a three-year term as chair of Shoes & Clothes for Kids.

Mr. Uhl has been a guest lecturer at American University, Baldwin-Wallace College, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Georgetown University, Kent State University, Marquette University and Ursuline College.

He is also a seven-time judge in the annual Great American Rib Cook-off contest in Cleveland and a member of the Martini Hall of Fame at the Century Restaurant in the Ritz Carlton - Cleveland.
